SCQuilty Tarts Challenge Wallhanging

Dimensions: 25" x 17"

Completed: December 2004

This was the challenge set for a sewing group I belong to. We each brought in a page from a magazine (not craft related) and drew one at random from the pile. We could use anything that was on either side of the page as inspiration for a quilt.
Here's what I ended up with:

(back)                               (front)

I used the concepts of escaping, the silhouette shapes and "blue" from the front page.
I used a lot from the back page, especially the phrase "Escape to the sun" and "Flight".

Here's my wallhanging... I went to town with the quilting and learned a lot.

The back is pieced and I printed sections of the paper that explained my interpretation, but didn't think it through 100% and it's not really readable with all the heavy quilting. Ah well.

I don't like this quilt at all (which explains why my mother likes it), so it is to live out its days shoved in a drawer in my sewing room.
