Here's another actual finished WIP! I have decided to try and reduce my shame pile a bit. This one began in 2001, when I started my very brief paper piecing phase. I lost interest because it was time consuming and quite cumbersome. Plus, I had trouble remembering to reverse the blocks, so a few times when I re-visited, I accidentally reversed the colours and had to toss those blocks aside. I decided to make another 3 blocks to finish off the row I was on and then just quilt and bind it. It was originally going to be single bed size. There are 1056 bits of fabric in this top - I think anyone stuck sleeping under a full size version would be well and truly trapped by the weight!!
One good thing about leaving this so long is my quilting skills have improved enough to do a much better job than I would have back then. I am also much less attached to this project, so was happy to experiment and wouldn't have metaphorically slashed my wrists if it didn't work out. I quilted it in randomly placed concentric circles using a 60 weight thread on top and in the bobbin (said thread kept shredding in my machine - never again on top!!):
It perfectly fits my coffee table, but I'm not sure that I want to unleash my 18 month old (recently introduced to crayons and textas) onto it - I do care a little bit!!!
No label for this quilt - I just can't be bothered and don't know what to say really! It will just hang in the guest room until we find something better to put there.
