All I can say is WOW!! I can't
believe I made this.
I have been wanting a thread cabinet for a long time, mainly because I wanted to
be able to see all my threads in one place without having to go digging through
containers looking for the right shade of beige. The only cabinets I found were
expensive and also left threads exposed to the light, which we all know isn't
good for the threads. so I designed my own. I counted up all my spools, measured
them all and had a 2 hour shopping trip at Bunnings (local hardware store).
Several trips to Bunnings, 2 weeks and one big varnish-fumed mess later, I have
my cabinet!
It has quilted panels on the front
(my trademark log cabins)...

...and the two doors open up so there's plenty of room inside. As you can see,
there's room for more thread!!

The only thing I have made in wood before is a little box from Year 7 woodwork
(I got an A for it).
I learned to cut wood using a regular saw and a mitre saw, how to hammer
reasonably well, how to use a drill press and how to put on hinges (although my
hands were very sore at this stage so hubby finished them off for me). Hubby put
it up on the wall fro me too, but the actual construction was all me!! Working
with wood is very similar to sewing, but the unpicking is much harder :-)
All within easy reach of my sewing
machine:

It can also been seen from the
entrance hall downstairs *grin*. I will eventually replace the pinwheel quilt
with a matching log cabin quilt (I think).
